A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Telumar Earthmaster Site

Telumar Earthmaster Site by Gene Siegal and Edwin King is a role playing game supplement published by Columbia Games Inc. for use with Hârn.

The supplement is available as a 12-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $9.99 but was purchased at a reduced price thanks to a special discount.

The opening paragraphs explain where the site is located, with sidebars on who the Earthmasters were and what the Godstones are.

Telumar Earthmaster SiteThe Earthmasters explains that the structures have stood almost untouched since their construction 20,000 years ago and their original purpose is uncertain.

The Atani Wars gives some details on the wars and the wall that was built across the pass where the site is as a result. This section continues near the end of the book.

Present Situation looks at recent events, including a mudslide and the arrival of a mage called Lepridis of Meldryn and his servants and apprentices. They have been attacked twice by orcs, though the orcs were driven off and have since avoided the compound. A sidebar gives details on Burned Varialde, a legend of the region.

There is a full-page GM map of the site, followed by descriptions of the important locations in the area. After this are maps and details of the Earthmaster building, details of the Earthmaster pylons and of the lights for which the site is known.

Lepridis of Meldryn gives some details on this mage and what he is trying to do.

Next is a page with an excerpt from the Hârn regional map showing the site’s location, a map of Hârn, again with the site’s location marked, and a list of related products.

After this is a player map, which is like the GM’s map but not labelled.

Telumar Earthmaster Site in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and has enough different sections that these would have been useful. In addition, the description of the site is placed so that the opening text that explains it is divided into two parts, one at the beginning and one at the end, for some unknown reason. Navigation is poor. The text is either single column with sidebar or two column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are black and white and colour maps and illustrations. Presentation is decent.

The supplement lacks any HârnMaster stats, meaning it can be used with any system. Though it wouldn’t be that easy to drop this site into another setting, it also wouldn’t be that hard either; some background information relating to the Earthmasters and Godstones, plus the area, would need to be changed. It is reasonably useful in general. Telumar Earthmaster Site covers an odd and interesting location, though it’s expensive at full price, and it can be found by clicking here.
