You against the City

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Gregorius21778: You against the City

Gregorius21778: You against the City is a role playing game supplement written and published by Kai Pütz a.k.a Gregorius21778. It is for use with Dark Streets & Darker Secrets.

The supplement is available as a ten-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $1 but was purchased at a reduced price during a sale. One page is the front cover, about half a page is the front matter and half a page ads. The PDF comes in two version, one of which is a more printer-friendly version that lacks the page background.

You against the CityThe opening paragraphs explain that this is a collection of 36 potentially harmful incidents, with suggestions on how to use them. It is adapted from 30 Random Problems – Cyberpunk.

Next, it explains that for the world to be depicted as being mean, bad things need to happen to the characters and this can be done by The City. As to using them, it suggests that the Referee pick or roll for a random event once an adventure. Also, and this may be for a separate use or perhaps altering the first, characters could try and avoid misfortune with a Luck roll. Finally, and this definitely appears to be another method, a character can ask for a Set-back from the City to gain a bonus on a Luck roll.

Next is a d66 table of 36 events. Most are mundane in nature but six are not. The rest of the supplement is taken up by descriptions of the events. These range from inconveniencing to annoying to potentially dangerous.

Gregorius21778: You against the City in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and these are not really needed. Navigation is okay. The text maintains a two-column format and some minor errors were noticed. There are a number of stock black and white illustrations. Presentation is decent.

This is a useful little list of things that could happen in a city. Though they are aimed at Dark Streets & Darker Secrets, with a little tweaking they could be used with other systems as well. Gregorius21778: You against the City is a nice little collection of random events and it can be found by clicking here.
