Dr. Clarke's Cabin

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Dr. Clarke’s Cabin

Dr. Clarke’s Cabin by Michael Bertolini is a role playing game supplement published by Chaosium Inc. through the Miskatonic Repository Community Content Programme for use with Call of Cthulhu, the horror role playing game based on the works of H.P. Lovecraft. This is a scenario for the 1920s.

The supplement is available as an eight page Pay What You Want docx file from DriveThruRPG. One page is the front cover and one the front matter.

Dr. Clarke's CabinIt starts off by saying that Doctor William Clarke has gone missing. Keeper Information explains that the doctor discovered something on a dig and took it to his cabin in Vermont in order to keep his discovery secure.

Involving the Investigators explain that the adventure is intended for four but could be adapted.

Part One explains that the investigators are contacted by a law firm to find Dr. Clarke, an archaeologist who was at Miskatonic University until a year ago, he owns a property in Arkham and a hunting lodge in Vermont, his wife is dead and his son is in London and they haven’t been able to contact him. This part covers what the investigators can find at the Arkham house, Miskatonic University and from the Arkham police.

Part Two has the investigators following up the leads to go to the hunting lodge where they will find out what happened to the doctor and what he discovered.

The final parts have monster stats, a spell, stats for a weapon, maps of the Arkham house and hunting lodge and a couple of handouts.

Dr. Clarke’s Cabin in Review

This is a docx file and therefore lacks bookmarks, though it’s short enough for navigation to be okay. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are a number of illustrations as well as the map. Presentation is okay.

Perhaps the biggest question is why this is a docx file, given that it’s possible to save such as PDFs from Word. There’s no answer to this of course. The author says that the scenario does have problems, it being the first they did, but is decent enough to stand up as a side-adventure. In truth, this is an adventure that is a diversion from something major, and would work as that. Dr. Clarke’s Cabin is a passable little scenario and it can be found by clicking here.
