A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Thistle Kingdom #2

Thistle Kingdom #2 is a role playing game supplement written and published by Christopher Käck for use with Mausritter.

The supplement is available as a Pay What You Want PDF from itch in two versions, one single page spreads, the other double page. The single page spreads version has 16 pages, with two being the front and rear covers.

Thistle Kingdom #2The first page of content has four tables for rolling random things. This is followed by some introductory text.

The Nature Patrol Goes Hiking! is a short adventure aimed at younger players. The characters are asked to lead a party of young mice on a scouting trip; one mouse eventually gets stuck in a crypt. There are hooks for involving the characters, events on the road, descriptions of young mice, travel, the crypt and the aftermath.

Duchy of the Grinning Oak is a hex crawl like that in the core book. It has a map, encounters, rumours, descriptions of the hexes and factions, and references the Order of the Green Mice from Thistle Kingdom #1.

Landsknechts are mercenary mice that take all sorts of martial jobs. They may be hired by characters, or characters could have a background as Landsknechts.

The PDF lacks bookmarks and has enough different sections that these would have been useful, though it is short. Navigation could be better. The text varies in format from one to three columns and appeared to be free of errors. There are a number of custom colour and black and white illustrations. Presentation is decent.

Like the first issue, this is a fanzine and therefore has different types of content, though the largest part of the content in this issue is the adventure. Most of the material can easily be dropped into a setting, though the hexcrawl is a setting in and of itself. This could be used to further develop a game world. Thistle Kingdom #2 is another interesting collection of material and it can be found on itch.
