Thistle Kingdom #1

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Thistle Kingdom #1

Thistle Kingdom #1 is a role playing game supplement written and published by Christopher Käck for use with Mausritter.

The supplement is available as a Pay What You Want PDF from itch in two versions, one single page spreads, the other double page. The single page spreads version has 20 pages, with two being the front and rear covers.

Thistle Kingdom #1The first page of content has six tables for rolling random things. This is followed by some introductory text.

Banks has a general overview of banks in the Mausritter world, followed by a table of random names and stats for bank staff.

Adventure Seed: Bank Heist maps out and describes a bank, along with rumours and adventure hooks.

The Order of the Green Mice describes a monastic order of mice, with their annual festivals, staffs of holly, which are four new items with different powers, playing the order and some adventure hooks.

Mushroom Kin are a new type of creature that live deep in the forests by themselves and give off spores that can have differing effects.

Father Tomte is a human-appearing being that lives in the forest, though he’s smaller than mice. There is also a table of some of his children and what they do.

The PDF lacks bookmarks and, though short, has enough sections that these would have been useful. Navigation could be better. The text maintains a single column format and some minor errors were noticed. There is a stock map plus some custom black and white and colour illustrations. Presentation is decent.

The supplement is described as an unofficial fanzine for Mausritter and consequently is a collection of different types of article, in this case locations, creatures and organisations, as well as some random tables. This is an assorted amount of interesting material that could be dropped into a Mausritter game, and fleshed out further in some cases. Thistle Kingdom #1 is a nice little PDF and it can be found on itch.
