A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement 20 Things #63: Crypts & Catacombs (System Neutral Edition)

20 Things #63: Crypts & Catacombs (System Neutral Edition) by Creighton Broadhurst is a generic role playing game supplement published by Raging Swan Press. The supplement is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

20 Things #63: Crypts & Catacombs (System Neutral Edition)The supplement is available as an 11-page PDF for $3.75 from DriveThruRPG but was purchased at a reduced price thanks to a special offer. The supplement comes in three versions, two PDFs, one designed for print and high-end devices, the other for mobile and low-end devices, and a plaintext file. Two pages of the PDF are the front and rear covers, two pages are ads, one page is the front matter and Contents and one the Open Game License.

1: Crypts & Catacomb Dressing has a d12 list of dressing, a d20 list of inscriptions to find on sarcophagi and a d20 list of graffiti to find on them.

2: Crypt & Catacomb Features has a d20 list of features for them.

3: The Interred has four undead residents to find; three ghosts and one ghast. Each has a name, alignment, species, sex, class and level, as they had in life, appearance, personality, mannerisms and how they might be laid to rest.

Next is a full page map of a crypt, which seems to be being used as full page filler.

4: Sarcophagi Dressing has a d12 list of such.

5: Grave Goods has a d12 list of potentially valuable items to find, though no values are given.

20 Things #63: Crypts & Catacombs (System Neutral Edition) in Review

The PDF is bookmarked with major and minor sections linked. The Contents is to a similar level of depth and is hyperlinked. Navigation is good. The text maintains a two column format and appeared to be free of errors. There is a single piece of black and white stock art as well as the map. Presentation is okay.

The 20 Things line is rarely a collection of d20 tables and this is no different, with a combination of d12 and d20 lists and one thing that itsn’t a list. Though system neutral, the references in The Interred are clearly aimed at D&D and derived games. The supplement is a useful collection of material for enhancing such locations, which are often common in fantasy games. 20 Things #63: Crypts & Catacombs (System Neutral Edition) can be found by clicking here.
