A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Sole Survivor

Sole Survivor by Joseph Mohr is a role playing game supplement published by Old School Role Playing for use with Cepheus Engine. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

The supplement is available as a 16 page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. Two pages are the front and rear covers, three the front matter and three the Open Game License.

Sole SurvivorThe opening paragraphs explain that the characters receive a distress call from a moon in a nearby system, and it’s confirmed that a ship by the name in the call was lost in the area about 40 years ago. Under interstellar law, the characters have a duty to investigate, but this law is rarely enforced. Though not stated, the adventure takes place in the Frontiers of Space.

Sole Survivor in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and, though short, there are enough different sections that these would have been useful. Navigation could be better. The text maintains a single column format and some minor errors were noticed. Bar the covers, there are no illustrations. Presentation is adequate.

This could potentially be a very short adventure, if the characters can’t be bothered investigating the distress call. Other than that, it is one with, as stated, elements that do not add up, because something else is going on. Still, it may be simple for the characters to deal with, though there are potential dangers. Sole Survivor is an okay adventure and it can be found by clicking here.
