People, Plots, and Places of the Wild West: The Lost Cache of Killer O’Bannon by Nathanael Christen is a role playing game supplement published by Pinnacle Entertainment via the Savage Worlds Adventurer’s Guild for use with Savage Worlds.
The supplement is available as a six-page PDF for $0.50 from DriveThruRPG but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a bundle.
The opening paragraph explains how the Kansas-Nebraska Act led to some violent clashes known as Bleeding Kansas and that this is about the hunt for a cache of loot stolen by raiders and is intended for Novice characters.
Introduction explains that the characters could be drawn into the adventure at any time they are travelling the frontier, with Riverboat and Lou’s Landing & the Rendezvous being suggestions.
Scene 1 – Chance Meeting has the characters encounter someone who believes he has the key to the location of a cache of items.
Scene 2 – Heading Upriver has the characters setting out to look for the cache.
Scene 3 – The Farm and the Cache has the characters find it.
Scene 4 – Showdown is the confrontation between the characters and others who want the cache.
Epilogue has some hooks for further adventures.
Appendix 1: The Letter is the letter handout that has clues to the cache’s location.
Appendix 2: NPCs has stats and descriptions for these.
Appendix 3: Maps duplicates maps found elsewhere in the supplement.
People, Plots, and Places of the Wild West: The Lost Cache of Killer O’Bannon in Review
The PDF lacks bookmarks and is short enough that they aren’t needed. Navigation is okay. The text is primarily two column format and an error was noticed in that the description for Appendix 3 was a duplicate of Appendix 2. There are a number of black and white illustrations and colour and black and white maps. Presentation is good.
Though this isn’t a complex adventure, it’s one that does involve travelling, and the showdown at the end has the potential to be dangerous. There are also other potential hooks from succeeding in finding and keeping the cache, which gives more potential for expansion.
