Free Role Playing Game Supplement Review: Yin Yang Panda – Warlock Scroll

Yin Yang Panda – Warlock Scroll by Łukasz Kołodziej is a free role playing game supplement published by Skavenloft. This is a supplement for Yin Yang Panda, which is based on Lasers & Feelings and is covered by the CC BY 4.0 license.

The supplement is available as an 11-page PDF for free from DriveThruRPG. Two pages are the front and rear covers, one the front matter and one the Table of Contents.

The Introduction explains this is a splatbook for Yin Yang Panda that explains how characters can learn and use magic, and what the supplement contains.

How to Use This is a standard section explaining that this, the core book and the standard items are needed.

Yin Yang Panda - Warlock ScrollFor a Good Cause looks at how players can create characters specialising in sorcery, not kung fu, or those that learn both ways, and how to integrate the character into the rest of the party whilst highlighting their differences.

For an Evil Cause is how the GM can use the ideas from the supplement when creating enemies.

What is Magic says this is difficult to answer, as there is no single kind of magic, from items to advanced kung fu techniques to making a home. It finishes by saying that the best solution is to say magic is kung fu of the mind.

Is Magic Evil boils down to no; it’s how it’s used.

Creating Magic-Wielding Characters how to create one during the normal creation process. This is little different to creating a kung fu character, as magic follows the same layout as kung fu martial arts.

Types of Magic explains that there are many different kinds.

Pact Magic gives an overview of this which is dealing with shadow and spirit beings, and references Spirit Realm and Shadow Realm, with the pact magic block.

Elemental Magic is laid out similar, but it deals with the elements.

Alchemy is again laid out similar, but deals with alchemy.

Yin Yang Panda – Warlock Scroll in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and, though short, has enough sections that they would have been useful. The Table of Contents covers the major sections. Navigation is adequate. The text maintains a single column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are no illustrations. Presentation is adequate.

This supplement adds new options to the game, by adding skills that work similarly to the martial arts, but which cover a different kind of thing. Though only three magic skills are detailed, more would definitely be possible. With them following exactly the same method of use as martial arts, integrating them into the game is easy enough as well. Yin Yang Panda – Warlock Scroll is a useful addition to the game and it can be downloaded for free by clicking here.
