Free Role Playing Game Supplement Review: Ho! Ho! Ho!

Ho! Ho! Ho! by Joseph Mohr is a role playing game supplement published by Old School Role Playing for use with Cepheus Engine. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

The supplement is available as a 13-page PDF for free from DriveThruRPG. Two pages are the front and rear covers, three the front matter and three the Open Game License.

Ho! Ho! Ho!The opening paragraphs explain that five populated worlds have been discovered along the border between the Sonora Sector – the adventure takes place in the Frontiers of Space setting, though this isn’t stated – and the neighbouring unexplored sector. The worlds are poor relative to the Sonora worlds and the characters are approached by a portly, white-bearded gentleman who wants them to deliver a shipment of toys to each world by December 24th. He will pick them up at each destination and deliver the toys to the children.

This Adventure explains this adventure is free, rather than the usual Pay What You Want, and someone wants to stop the deliveries.

No Map Provided explains the adventure hasn’t got a map.

Complications are things that can go wrong with the adventure, including an alien being called Grrrr Innnnch wants to stop the deliveries.

The Worlds to be Visited briefly details each world with their world codes and the dangers found there. Five following sections then detail the specific details in each system; pirates, ion storms, meteor showers, volcanic activity and tribal hostility.

The Grrrr Innnnch covers the alien and what it will do.

Completion Objectives are how to complete the adventure successfully.

A Gift from the Patron is a bonus from the patron.

Finally, there is a Christmas poem.

The PDF lacks bookmarks and, though short, has enough sections that they would have been appreciated. Navigation could be better. The text maintains a single column format and some minor errors were noticed. Bar the covers, there are no illustrations. Presentation is adequate.

This is what it appears to be; a short Christmas adventure delivering presents to help Santa Claus whilst opposed by the Grinch. It’s relatively straightforward, though this doesn’t necessarily mean safe. Ho! Ho! Ho! is a short bit of Christmas-themed fun and it can be found by clicking here.
