A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement The Campers: A Post Apocalyptic Group

The Campers: A Post Apocalyptic Group by Dave Woodrum is a generic role playing game supplement published by Fishwife Games.

The supplement is available as a 22-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $3.50 but was purchased at a reduced price during a sale. One page is the front cover.

The Campers: A Post Apocalyptic GroupA New Gang Of Nomads Has Rolled Into The Outskirts Of Town… explains that the Campers are a post-apocalyptic group of survivors that move around from place to place. They may have internal struggles and come from different backgrounds, but they are well equipped, generally well-armed and reasonably diverse in terms of skills and abilities. Examples are given as to how to use the group as friendly NPCs, as the group are, for the most part, friendly, neutral ones or as enemies, as some of the group are less than savoury and it’s possible that the leader might be more of a cult leader than the generally friendly person he’s portrayed as.

The rest of the supplement is taken up by describing 32 NPCs from the group; this is not necessarily all of them. All of the descriptions follow the same format. Each is given a name, a role in the group, appearance, personality, weapons, attire, notable gear, pet, if they have one, and vehicle, if they have one. Various NPCs are connected to others in the group in some way.

The Campers: A Post Apocalyptic Group in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and is long enough with enough different sections that these would have been useful. Navigation could be better. The text maintains a single column format and some minor errors were noticed. There are a few stock images, all rendered as black and white, mostly vehicles. Presentation is okay.

Throughout the supplement are empty boxes marked “Game Master Conversion Notes”. These allow the GM to add stats for different NPCs; the boxes vary a lot in size, and some are a bit small. The group described is mostly suitable for a near-now post-apocalyptic setting, given that they are using modern equipment and vehicles; no more than a few years after whatever apocalyptic event struck. They are, however, suitable for use in a number of different kinds of post-apocalyptic settings. The Campers: A Post Apocalyptic Group decently describes a group and can be found by clicking here.
