A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Peoni: Irreproachable Order

Peoni: Irreproachable Order by Brent Bailey is a role playing game supplement published by Columbia Games Inc. for use with Hârn and HârnMaster.

The supplement is available as a 10-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $4.99 but was purchased at a reduced price during a sale.

The first page explains that this is the clerical order for men in the Peonian Church and, like the sisters of the Order of the Balm of Joy, they devote themselves to easing hardship for the poor and afflicted through agriculture and healing. Though the Balm of Joy specialises in physical suffering, the Irreproachable Order focuses on mental and spiritual causes of illness. The order is known for its strict interpretation of doctrine and little tolerance for blurring of teachings. The priests are celibate and ascetic. A sidebar has the order’s badge and a description of it.

Peoni: Irreproachable OrderOrigins and History explains that the Church of Peoni has always been loosely organised and how the separation into the two current orders began and eventually became the main focus of the church. The orders are about the same size, and one or the other takes a leadership role in any region; in Hârn, that is Balm of Joy. It also covers how the Irreproachable Order arrived on Hârn and a sidebar covers its guiding principles.

Current Situation looks at the order in the different parts of Hârn and a sidebar covers the Maermalites, which is a congregation that forms in regions where the church is prohibited.

Joining the Order explains how it is joined and the different ranks, with a sidebar having the skills of the members.

Life in the Order covers what it does and how they function, with a sidebar looking at symbols, regalia and sanctuary.

The next page covers the order’s equipment, potions and herbal preparations and ritual invocations.

Sons of Tirrala is a specialist congregation who do battlefield healing. The history, equipment, invocations, symbols, regalia and skills are covered.

Shield of Belsirasin covers the same things as the previous section, only for the congregation specialising in illnesses of the mind and soul.

Peoni: Irreproachable Order in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and has enough different sections that these would have been useful. Navigation could be better. The text is either a one column with sidebar or two column format and appeared to be free of error. There are a number of colour and black and white illustrations. Presentation is decent.

This supplement covers a clerical order for Hârn in a decent amount of detail, and it has more HârnMaster stats than is often the case; this makes it less useful with other systems, though the material could be converted. It’s also quite heavily tied to Hârn, making it less generally useful as well. It is useful for further development of the setting. Peoni: Irreproachable Order is a decent supplement on a clerical order and it can be found by clicking here.
