A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Mirrors

Mirrors by Joseph Mohr is a role playing game supplement published by Old School Role Playing for use with Cepheus Engine. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

The supplement is available as an 18 page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. Two pages are the front and rear covers, three the front matter and three the Open Game License.

MirrorsThe opening paragraphs explain that whilst in a star port the characters are approached by a representative of the Sonoran Interstellar Police – though not stated, the adventure takes place in the Frontiers of Space – with a job for them. He wants them to pursue the suspects from a gold robbery who fled to a planet in the neighbouring sector and therefore out of their jurisdiction.

Patron gives details on the representative.

Complications are things that can go wrong or which aren’t known.

Guirion gives details on the world and the major locations.

Clones on Guirion goes into more details, that there are only two appearances on the planet as a result, one male, one female, and that everyone has the same UPP.

The Thieves has details on them.

Motivation is why the thieves stole the gold.

Local Authorities has details on these.

The Isle of Kheyus has details on where the thieves are holed up.

Possible Methods of Seeking the Thieves has a number of ways the characters could do this, and that anything else the players come up with should be judged by the GM.

The Gold Bullion has details on the gold.

Mission Completion Objectives are what’s needed to complete the adventure, and other ways of finishing it.

The final two pages of content have a colour map of the planet and a black and white map of the island.

Mirrors in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and is long enough with enough different sections that these would be useful. Navigation could be better. The text maintains a single column format and some minor errors were noticed. Apart from the maps and covers, there are no illustrations. Presentation is adequate.

This adventure has some potential moral dilemmas for the characters. Though the gold is stolen, the thieves did it to aid with the survival of all their people; due to errors in cloning, death before 40 is the norm. Then, should the characters recover the gold, it is worth far more than the reward, and they may decide to keep it. Which also has problems. Mirrors is an adventure with some potential decisions for the characters to make and it can be found by clicking here.
