A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Mini Quest: Madness of the Mouther

Mini Quest: Madness of the Mouther by David Dudka is a role playing game supplement published by Survive RPG. This is a mini adventure, part of the Mini Quest series, designed for use with variants of the Dungeons & Dragons game, although no particular system is specified.

This is a three page Pay What You Want PDF that is available from RPGNow.

The adventure starts in a marketplace where the characters are at a shop when an individual, clearly crazed, runs out of a nearby alley. This individual has been driven insane and wants to cut out the merchant’s tongue to stop the voices.

Mini Quest: Madness of the MoutherBacktracking the man’s progress in the alley ends in an open door which leads into a thieves’ guild outpost. In the outpost, the majority of the occupants are dead, drained of blood and covered in bite marks. What’s left alive is non-sentient. Whispers of nonsensical words will occur now and then and the remaining inhabitants attack when they hear them. There are a number of messages left by the now-deceased thieves. The characters have to find out what caused this and defeat it.

The final encounter has a hook connecting it to another adventure, The Talisman of Moloch.

The PDF lacks bookmarks but, at this length, they are not needed. The text maintains a two column format and a number of minor errors were noted. There is a map of the guild and a number of custom black and white illustrations. Presentation is above average for a supplement of this length.

One thing that isn’t stated is just what level the adventure is suitable for. This is fairly common in this series; a GM will have to decide for themselves just how challenging the adventure is, which is a bit inconvenient.

The adventure itself involves a couple of fixed encounters and the exploration of a location that clearly has a dangerous threat in it. The reward at the end is pretty valuable and the link to another quest is also useful. The adventure could be easily dropped in to many campaigns as a side quest.

Mini Quest: Madness of the Mouther is a decent adventure that can be checked out for free by clicking here.
