A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Menio Keep

Menio Keep by Oddgeir Drevdal is a role playing game supplement published by Columbia Games Inc. for use with HârnMaster.

The supplement is available from DriveThruRPG as a 10-page PDF for $7.98 although it was purchased at a reduced price thanks to a special discount.

The supplement starts with an overview of Menio followed by its history. The sidebar on the first page has its coat of arms, details and taxes.

Menio KeepThe Current Situation explains that Baron Poul is the current baron, but he has little interest in actually running his barony. A sidebar covers the Government, and how the baron is allowing others to perform his duties.

Economics explains that ceramic production is the most important part of Menio’s economy, as well as the occupations of the Mason’s Guild and charcoalers. It also has a busy port. A sidebar covers the Potter’s Guild.

The next page is taken up by a labelled map of Menio. The following two pages cover the numbered locations with, where appropriate, size, quality and prices.

Next, Caer Menio, the baron’s castle, is detailed. There are maps of the floors of the castle and the various locations are detailed.

The next page has an excerpt from the Melderyn Kingdom Map, the region Menio appears in, a map of Hârn with its location indicated and a list of related products.

The final page has a player-friendly map of the place.

Menio Keep in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and there are not enough sections to really need them. The text is either a two-column format or single column with sidebar and appeared to be free of errors. There is a colour illustration on the front cover, black and white illustrations of NPCs and various colour maps and the coat of arms. Presentation is good.

This is another HârnMaster supplement that is free of game stats, making it more system neutral. Even with various ties to other parts of Hârn, it could probably be dropped into another appropriate setting with a small amount of work.

The supplement details a location quite thoroughly; it is like many Hârn supplements in being quite expensive, though. The level of detail is good however. Menio Keep is a nice little, albeit pricy, supplement and it can be found by clicking here.
