A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Gregorius21778: The Hunter’s Cursed Crossing

Gregorius21778: The Hunter’s Cursed Crossing is a role playing game supplement written and published by Kai Pütz a.k.a Gregorius21778 for use with Lamentations of the Flame Princess. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

The supplement is available as a 21 page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. One page is the front cover, one the front matter and one the Open Game License. The PDF comes in two versions, one of which is a more printer-friendly version without a background. There is also a gif that has a map of the place.

Gregorius21778: The Hunter's Cursed CrossingThe Summary explains how the characters get sucked into a limbo region and how they may be able to escape again, which will require interacting with the other creatures that live in the pocket realm.

The Hunter’s Limbo has a map of the realm, which is the same as the gif, and how to treat it; it’s essentially a d6 in design. Details on travel speed, map size, the fog that shrouds the realm and random encounters are given.

The Hunt is the order in which creatures hunting the characters are encountered and when.

Six different locations are then described and what can be found at them, including random encounters and some fixed ones. Some may be helpful but all can be dangerous in some way.

Random Encounters has a dozen different detailed encounters that can be had.

The Sister of the Hunter has stats and details on just what it says, the sister of the being whose realm this is.

Forlorn John has details on a cursed wretch who can be encountered and who can provide useful information.

The Hunter describes and has the stats for the Hunter and his black hounds.

The final page of content reproduces the map of the ream.

Gregorius21778: The Hunter’s Cursed Crossing in Review

The PDF is bookmarked with major and minor sections linked. Navigation is decent. The text maintains a two-column format and some minor errors were noticed. There are a variety of stock illustrations, most black and white. Presentation is decent.

This, being an adventure set in a pocket realm, is easy enough to drop into most settings, as all that’s needed is for the characters to be sent there. It should also be comparatively easy to convert to other OSR systems. The adventure itself has the potential to be quite nasty; even though everything isn’t unremittingly hostile, the limbo is a dangerous place and the characters are there to be hunted. This is intended to be a Halloween scenario, with the Hunter opening up his realm just before Samhain, but it could easily be used at other times of year. Gregorius21778: The Hunter’s Cursed Crossing is a decent and potentially dangerous little adventure and it can be found by clicking here.
