A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement City of Mist District: Fortune Row

City of Mist District: Fortune Row by Eran Aviram is a role playing game supplement published by Son of Oak Game Studio for use with City of Mist. This describes a district that can be used to expand the City.

The supplement is available as an 18-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $7.99 but was purchased at a reduced price during a sale. One page is the front cover.

The first page of content has a brief bit of in character text and suggestions as to how to use the supplement in game; the setting for a heist, for shady dealings and for high-stakes gambling.

City of Mist District: Fortune RowThe district is given an overview, and it’s a place where gambling is king. Though the police are largely absent, it’s one of the safest places in the City.

Beyond the Mist explains that in the early days of Fortune Row the energies of luck and fate created conflicting currents. The Rifts who owned the casinos set up the Regulatory Commission, which regulates luck, not gambling; the casinos are backed by slums where that it’s really difficult to get out of. The Regulatory Commission cooperates with the Gatekeepers, and the Mist is well maintained.

Custom Moves has a new move, which can be used with a Core Move to add an element of gambling.

Places of Interest starts with The Snake, which is Fortune Row’s main street and, thanks to the management of luck, stretches from a fortunate section through a neutral section to the derelict slums. The Themed Casino covers two casinos, with details on people and Rifts that can be encountered in them. Sidestreets of the Row gives an overview of the area and details on one place. Snake Eyes is a gambling hall built at the exact spot where the flows of fortune and misfortune on The Snake neutralise each other. The Regulatory Commission is home to those who run the district.

Locals has details on a number of different NPCs, some with talents useful for carrying out a heist.

Heists in the City has some rules for running heists, as well as designing them, and a quick, playing card-based generator for creating them.

City of Mist District: Fortune Row in Review

The PDF is bookmarked with major and some minor sections linked, though not as deeply as it could be. Given the length, navigation is okay. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are a number of pieces of colour filler art, all appropriate but none really look custom bar the cover. Presentation is okay.

This supplement adds another themed district to the City, like the ones in the Master of Ceremonies’ Toolkit, though this district is covered in more detail than those. There are a decent number of new places and new NPCs and, with the heist rules, a definite push towards carrying out a casino robbery. Overall, this allows the MC to expand the places to play in the City. City of Mist District: Fortune Row can be found by clicking here.
