A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Agrik: Order of Mamaka, Master of Steel

Agrik: Order of Mamaka, Master of Steel by Alun Rees is a role playing game supplement published by Columbia Games Inc. for use with HârnMaster.

The supplement is available from DriveThruRPG as a six-page PDF for $2.99 but it was purchased at a reduced price thanks to a special discount. All the pages are content.

The supplement covers the Order of Mamaka, Master of Steel, a clerical Agrikan order. It starts with the order’s origins and history, how it first began during the Coranan empire with the Agrikan scripture Trials of Mamaka (mentioned in a sidebar) and the founding of the Order of Khamar, that order’s disappearance and then its refounding as the Order of Mamaka.

Agrik: Order of Mamaka, Master of SteelThe Current Situation explains the current state of the order and how the Warriors of Mameka (covered in a sidebar) have been delegated to do the order’s original mission. The Mamakans are believed to be responsible for eliminating a rival order. The order itself is being watched by a representative of the pontiff (also covered in a sidebar).

Leadership of the Order covers the senior members at the Temple at Golotha and the House of Ordeals at Bedenes. A chart shows the order’s power structure.

Rituals and Practices has the, somewhat bloody and violent, practices of the order and a sidebar covers the Eight Pillars of Faith.

Joining the Order is on joining it, with provisional acolytes, acolytes, sublieutenants and failed acolytes, the very bottom of the order, just above slaves. A sidebar covers Mamakan cleric skills.

Finally, Ritual Invocations has various spells for the order, as well as those common to the priest of Agrik.

The PDF lacks bookmarks and is short enough that they are not needed but would have been nice. The text follows either a single column with sidebar layout or two column layout. There is a single colour illustration, the order’s emblem, and several pieces of black and white art, most of which appears to be stock. Presentation is okay.

The supplement covers the order in a reasonable level of detail, but the major outposts of the organisation are only mentioned, not detailed. Similarly, the major NPCs are only given brief overviews, rather than game stats. This supplement is more aimed at HârnMaster than others, with the various skills and spells, but it should still be possible to convert it to other systems. Agrik: Order of Mamaka, Master of Steel is a decent little supplement covering a major order and it can be found by clicking here.
