After the Nightfall

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement After the Nightfall

After the Nightfall by Bruce R. Cordell is a role playing game supplement published by Monte Cook Games for use with the Cypher System. This is an adventure for the Gods of the Fall setting.

The supplement is available from DriveThruRPG as a PDF for $2.99 but was purchased at a reduced price thanks to a special bundle. One page is the front cover.

The Introduction explains that this is an adventure for beginning or experienced players and the Cypher System Rulebook and Gods of the Fall are advised to be handy. Both are referred to in places.

After the NightfallBrief Summary explains that the PCs are fledgling deities – this is standard for Gods of the Fall – and to awaken their divine abilities they must accomplish divine labours; in this case, they have discovered they need to slay a creature called a raver. Introduce the World gives an overview of the setting that can be used for unfamiliar players.

The adventure starts in an inn in Corso, the largest city in the setting, when the characters have to deal with slavers as the owner hadn’t paid the required fees. Should they display divine abilities whilst doing so, they will be hunted down by a group that kills potentially divine beings. There are details on an artefact and some research.

Two pages are taken up by a map of a place the characters travel to, with various comments around the side describing locations. This is rather difficult to refer to in PDF. After the characters are victorious, they are warned by one of the dead creatures. Finally, there are notes on using the adventure in a campaign and on further development.

The last 12 pages are taken up by six pre-generated characters.

After the Nightfall in Review

The PDF is well bookmarked with major and minor sections linked. Navigation is good. The text predominately follows the standard two columns with sidebar layout and appeared to be free of errors. The sidebars are used for stats and references to other books. There are a number of colour illustrations, which look as if they may be custom. Presentation is good.

This is a pretty short, simple adventure for Gods of the Fall. There are a number of encounters, a twist and the problem that if the characters show off their divine abilities to the wrong people, they may well get hunted down by others who are currently more powerful. After the Nightfall is a decent little adventure and it can be found by clicking here.
