The Chivalrous Knights of Myork aka All About Knights and Nobility by John Josten is a generic role playing game supplement published by Board Enterprises as part of their Small Bites line.
This is a nineteen page PDF which is available for free from RPGNow. The edition reviewed is the abbreviated “World Walker” edition; the full version, which would seem to be for Patrons, has 41 pages. One page is the front cover and around two thirds of a page contains various links and an ad for the publisher’s Patreon.
It starts with a brief Introduction, about how this was originally intended to be the first in the Small Bites series, but got moved after the project turned out to be more about vators than knights.
Y? Y? Y! mentions various previous editions in this series – The Avatar of Manato, The Mercenary Vators of Myork, The Harpoon Happy Whalers of Scaret – all of which had a common thread about an upcoming holy war. The full versions of the supplements are the ones being referred to, and it mentions how Paladin vs. Paladin will not have a World Walker edition.
Fletnern Wiki is a collection of brief articles on various groups, sites, individuals, regions and cities connected with Myork. Sites can be simple streets. These can all be found in the Fletnern wiki.
The Sounding Board has various articles reproduced from the author’s blog. These are fairly detailed considerations related to making a real campaign world. This section has articles on what nobles do, how stipends might work and build up an idle class of nobles, how to add politics to a campaign, the cost of armour, which refers to some Legend Quest spells that make normal materials much stronger, a soap opera style interaction between people, ranks and titles and using shield bashing.
Lifestyles of the Magical and Mundane considers the life of a noble warrior and has an overview of nobles and the amount of land different ranks own.
The Good Life has articles on castles in Myork, and how they have evolved from being strong to being beautiful and strong, and the effect this has had on architects. This article also considers how the environment would affect the interior of a castle. There are also articles on fashion in Myork, how women are treated and art among the Anglic peoples.
Finally, News of Fletnern has news articles on the construction of a fortress and an earthquake.
The last section, What’s Missing, gives details on the various articles that are in the complete version of the supplement.
The PDF is bookmarked but it only covers the major sections, not the individual articles. The Table of Contents is to the same level of detail. Navigation is okay but it could have been better.
The text maintains a two column format and appeared error-free. The majority of the illustrations appear to be black and white public domain work; there is also a single, three colour rough map of part of Fletnern in the Myork region.
As with others in this series, this is essentially a collection of essays that are generally related, combined with some Fletnern-specific related material. Again, as with other supplements in the series, it is a bit of a hodge podge of related and distantly related material. It’s an interesting read, as are the others in the series, but it doesn’t really feel like a coherent whole. Perhaps this is because of the missing material, but perhaps not, given that some of the contents are taken from various sources.
The Chivalrous Knights of Myork aka All About Knights and Nobility is interesting if you want to read some clearly well thought out essays on the matter of knights and the nobility and it can be downloaded for free by clicking here.
