Urban Locale #09: Gambling Den by Robert Manson is a generic role playing game supplement published by Raging Swan Press.
The supplement is available as a 7-page PDF for $1.75 from DriveThruRPG but was purchased at a reduced price thanks to a special offer. The supplement comes in two versions, a plaintext file and a PDF. Two pages are the front and rear covers, two pages are ads and about half a page is the front matter and Contents.
Using this Urban Locale is a standard piece explaining how to use the lists and what each list covers. This is followed by a brief paragraph on gambling dens, which can sometimes be illegal, then the d10 lists.
1: The Gambling Den has ten dens named and briefly described.
2: Major Locale Features covers major features for a gambling den.
3: Minor Locale Features is similar but has more minor features.
4: What’s Going On? has ten things that might be happening.
5: Other Folk has ten NPCs to encounter, each of which is given a name and brief description, as well as alignment, species, sex and in one case age.
Urban Locale #09: Gambling Den in Review
The PDF is bookmarked with the various sections linked. The Contents is to a similar level of depth and is hyperlinked. Navigation is good. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There is a single black and white illustration. Presentation is okay.
One area that does seem to be missing from this is games of chance that could be played. Yes, there are all the standard ones, as well as from other sources, but a brief name and description of a new game, even without any rules, would have been an interesting addition. Though the rest of the content is fine and thematic, it does feel a little too brief to fully do such a location justice. Urban Locale #09: Gambling Den can be found by clicking here.
