The Untamed Wilds: A 5e Campaign Setting is a role playing game supplement written and published by Grey Wolf Writes for use with Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition.
The supplement is available as a ten page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG.
Chapter 1: The Laws of the Frontier explains that the frontier is not just a setting but an active adversary. The chapter covers accessing the frontier view a portal and its cycle of opening and the two laws that cause metal to degrade and make magic more difficult to use.
Chapter 2: Survival and Base Building explains that to establish a permanent presence requires shifting from dungeon crawling to hex crawling survival based on a base of operations. There are rules on resting, tools and skills and operating the base.
Chapter 3: The Local Ecosystem looks at what’s needed to survive, including native crafting materials and ether salt, the most important thing.
Chapter 4: Factions and Politics has details on the different factions and their relationships.
Chapter 5: The Anti-Patrons are the threats of the setting.
Chapter 6: Initiating the Campaign covers what the characters arrive with and the three different zones that they may choose.

The PDF lacks bookmarks and, though short, has enough different sections that these would have been useful. Navigation is okay. The text maintains a single column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are no illustrations. Presentation is okay.
This isn’t so much a setting as it is a framework for a setting. There are some details on the setting and what can be encountered there, but little in the way of mechanics. Further development will be needed to flesh this setting out more, though what’s presented is an interesting start. However, more is definitely needed, as this seems more like the start of an idea with some development than a fully-fledged one.
