The Tomb of Isaria

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement The Tomb of Isaria

The Tomb of Isaria by Pavlo Vasylkov is a role playing game supplement published by Elven Tower for use with Shadowdark. This is an adventure for 7th level characters.

The supplement is available as a 15 page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. One page is the front cover, one the Table of Contents and Credits and one is ads.

The Tomb of IsariaAdventure Primer explains that the evil warlock Isaria was mummified and buried in the cave, and his acolytes have been trying to find him. Some nearly did, but discovered a fungal grotto. Spores spread through the caves and now Isaria controls everything they touched.

Factions lists the various factions found in the caves.

Cordyceps Infection explains how characters get infected.

Alternate Scenarios has different backgrounds for Isaria, or for playing it as a one-shot.

Dungeon has overall features of the dungeon and a d6 table of random encounters.

Areas covers the various locations in the dungeon, with a guide as to how to use information provided to describe an area. There is no read-aloud text; only points of interest.

Statblocks has the stats for the various creatures.

Magic Items has some new items.

The Tomb of Isaria in Review

The PDF is bookmarked with the various sections linked. The Table of Contents is to a similar level of depth and is hyperlinked. Navigation is good. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are a number of stock colour and black and white illustrations up to half a page in size. Presentation is good.

This is a straightforward enough adventure, though the actual reason for it can be varied, making things potentially turn out a bit differently. Other than that, this is exploring a hazardous location, with an edge given to things by the fungal infection that can affect characters. The Tomb of Isaria can be found by clicking here.
