A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Sundered Lands – Jerat Region for the Shadowdark RPG

Sundered Lands – Jerat Region for the Shadowdark RPG by Norm Nevins is a role playing game supplement published by Shepherd Games for use with Shadowdark.

The supplement is available as a 48 page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. Two pages are the front and rear covers, one the front matter, one the Table of Contents and four are blank.

Just inside the front and rear covers is a colour map of the region.

Setting gives an overview of Jerat and the population, stability and justice, adversaries, allies, special units, common encounters and ancestry. This section also discusses the hex crawl, how the hexes are described, solo play and what the parts of the descriptions mean There are also some details on random encounters, what rumours are, which are available for a price and are adventure hooks, a table for the weather and a table to generate names.

Character Classes has two new classes, the veiled arcanist and the alchemist.

The Region covers the different hexes, which seems to be all the land hexes. Each hex has a short description, along with other material, including set encounters, opportunities, locations, rumours and random encounters. Not every hex has all of these and some have more than one.

Adventure – Templar’s End is a short adventure with a map and some new creatures and random encounters.

Sundered Lands – Jerat Region for the Shadowdark RPG in Review

The PDF is well bookmarked with major and minor sections linked. The Table of Contents just covers the main sections. Navigation is good. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. As well as the colour maps, there are some black and white illustrations. Presentation is okay.

One problem with the supplement is that all the text is done in capitals, which is a detriment to reading it. The supplement itself is good, because it covers a decent sized region, though one small enough to drop into different settings, and covers it in a reasonable amount of detail with interconnection between the hexes.
