Scratch Builder Monthly October 2022 is a supplement written and published by MJ Hobby Corner for use with making cheap models, primarily for tabletop wargaming.
The supplement is available as a 53-page PDF from Wargame Vault for $3. One page is the front cover and one the credits.
The Introduction explains that this is a new publication will build on videos for projects.
Studio News: Testing New Games looks at the new games being tried out.
Sculpting a New Sea Creature covers the process of sculpting a miniature, using a mix of clays.
Foam Crafting: A New Gunship for 10mm starts with an already assembled foam gunship and then covers the process of painting it, including paints used.
Cardboard Month: Making Sci-Fi Walls covers the tools, materials and process of building some sci-fi walls, including sliding doors.
Experimenting with Cardboard covers making and painting a tank from single corrugated cardboard.
Scratch Builder Monthly October 2022 in Review
The PDF lacks bookmarks and is long enough with enough different sections that these would be useful. Navigation could be better. The text maintains a single column format and some minor errors were noticed. There are a variety of colour photos of photos, stages, materials and tools. Presentation is decent.
This supplement has some examples of miniatures and other items being made from cheap, easily obtainable materials for the most part. Some of these are covered in more detail than others. The quality of the end result does vary, but efforts could be made to improve some of them, and overall, they are much cheaper than any other methods.
