Scratch Builder Monthly December 2025 is a supplement written and published by MJ Hobby Corner for use with making cheap models, primarily for tabletop wargaming.
The supplement is available as a 57-page PDF from Wargame Vault for $3. One page is the front cover, one the Table of Contents and two the Credits and Links.
The Introduction explains that this issue is looking into making scratch-built starships, and how civilian ships can make wargames more interesting, and terrain, all from recycled or cheap materials.
“New Campaign in the Tropics, Now What?” has instructions for crafting mango trees, as well as some magnetic boat trays for troops.
Low Budget River Set Ups looks at using clear plastic and a dark cloth to function as river and riverbed, along with using terrain to create a jungle setting, along with details on a battle.
Let’s Make A Fleet: Saurian Fleet has details for making a Saurian fleet for Void Admiral, using such as layered corrugated cardboard, packaging card and cheap items for surface greebling. Several different designs of starship are covered.
Mining Vessels has some examples of complete vessels, and some instructions on how to make a gas tanker and orbital telescope.
Air Ships has some instructions to make air ships of the “flying boat” variety, though the author prefers the more realistic version of the blimp type.
Five Years of Making Star ships is a look back at this and designs made.
Changes to Scratch Builder In 2026 explains that issues are going to be reduced in size and made for focused on specific projects, which will also allow the creation of other zines on different topics.
Let the Games Continue! is a thankyou page.
Scratch Builder Monthly December 2025 in Review
The PDF lacks bookmarks and is long enough with enough different sections that these would have been useful. The Table of Contents covers the major sections. Navigation is okay. The text maintains a single column format and some minor errors were noticed. There are a variety of photos of tools, materials and the various stages of projects from started to finished. Presentation is good.
Though the focus of this issue may be starships, which could be used in a variety of games, not just Void Admiral, the instructions on making mango trees in particular is usable with a wide range of genres, and given the tree size can be adjusted, game scales. All of the projects use materials that are either free or have minimal costs. Scratch Builder Monthly December 2025 can be found by clicking here.
