People, Plots and Places of the Wild West: A Quiet Little Frontier Town by Nathanael Christen is a role playing game supplement published by Pinnacle Entertainment via the Savage Worlds Adventurer’s Guild for use with Savage Worlds.
The supplement is available as a six-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $0.50.
Overview gives some details on Shady Glen, a frontier town on the Mississippi River. There’s a map of the town with the important locations marked.
Following this, eight major locations are detailed. These are given a name, a description and a map. For all but the cemetery, there’s also a description and stats for a major NPC at the location, as well as some plot hooks; the cemetery has instead three gravestone markings. Amongst these eight is a footnote explaining that two other locations, Lou’s Landing and Fort Phillips, are nearby.
After the eight major locations, there’s a map and overall description of the typical family home, along with a statbox for typical townsfolk, and then a description of the outhouses, which oddly also have a map.
Finally, there are some general plot hooks for the town as a whole and a description of the town dog.
People, Plots and Places of the Wild West: A Quiet Little Frontier Town in Review
The PDF lacks bookmarks and, though short, has enough sections that these would have been useful. Navigation is okay. The text is primarily a two column or two column table format and appeared to be free of errors. As well as the maps, there are a couple of black and white illustrations. Presentation is okay.
This is a useful little supplement covering a small settlement in the latter part of the 19th century. Though it’s aimed at Savage Worlds and a standard setting, it should also be possible to use it with other systems, and with Weird West settings, with a little bit of work, and the price is reasonable.
