Messiah by Joseph Mohr is a role playing game supplement published by Old School Role Playing for use with Cepheus Engine. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.
The supplement is available as a 17 page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. Two pages are the front and rear covers, three the front matter and three the Open Game License.
The opening paragraphs explain that the characters are hired to take a scholar to a religious world – the adventure is set in the Frontiers of Space – and this journey could also be paired with trading with the planet.
Patron has details on the employer.
Complications are things that are not known or which could go wrong.
Wuringeia has details on the world.
The Religious Police has details on the secret police and some agents.
The Religious Dictator has details on the planet’s ruler.
The Big City covers major points of interest in the city which is home to the starport.
The Local Inhabitants has some details on them.
A Miracle or Two has details on miracles that the patron will perform.
The Show Trial is the trial after the patron is arrested.
Trade has some details on making money trading.
An Unexpected Outcome has potential for further profits should the patron take over the world.
Mission Completion is what’s needed to succeed; basically, bring the patron and then leave unharmed.
The final two pages of content have maps of the world and the city.
Messiah in Review
The PDF lacks bookmarks and is long enough with enough different sections that these would have been useful. Navigation is okay. The text maintains a single column format and some minor errors were noticed. Bar the covers and maps, there are no illustrations. Presentation is okay.
This is a straightforward enough mission, especially if characters do their research and don’t hang around afterwards. The world has some brutal penalties, and failure to research the religious mores will have bad consequences for the characters. Also, the longer they hang around, the greater the chance they will end up embroiled in their employer’s, probably doomed, attempt to become ruler of the world. Messiah can be found by clicking here.
