Hunger at the Campsite

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Hunger at the Campsite

Hunger at the Campsite by Phanzar is a role playing game supplement published by Chaosium Inc. through the Miskatonic Repository Community Content Programme for use with Call of Cthulhu, the horror role playing game based on the works of H.P. Lovecraft.

The supplement is available as a three page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. One page is the front cover. A second, four-page PDF has character sheets for pre-generated characters, and there is a png map of the campsite. There are also Brazilian Portuguese duplicates of all of these.

Hunger at the CampsiteThe opening paragraph explains that the investigators discover an abandoned campsite.

Context explains the forest is a popular camping location, where a group of youths were devoured by a deity. A sidebar has an optional hunter’s testimony.

Scene 1: Into the Woods has the characters searching in the woods.

Scene 2: The Campsite covers this.

Scene 3: The Black Tree covers the tree found at the site.

Conclusion has the rewards.

Threats covers the enemies and a sidebar explains them further.

Hunger at the Campsite in Review

The PDF is bookmarked with all sections linked. Navigation is good. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be almost free of errors. Bar the map, there are no illustrations. Presentation is okay.

The adventure is set in 1992 – Cthulhu Now territory – and in the Santa Helena forest. However, there is nothing in the adventure really tying down the year or the location; it would be easy enough to drop it down into the woods of 1920s Arkham, or anywhere else for that matter. The adventure itself is short and potentially dangerous. Hunger at the Campsite can be found by clicking here.
