Fat Goblin Gazette #3

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Fat Goblin Gazette #3

Fat Goblin Gazette #3 is a role playing game supplement published by Fat Goblin Games for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

Fat Goblin Gazette #3The supplement is available as a 16-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $1.95 though it was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. One page is the front cover, one the Content, one and two thirds are ads and on the Open Game License.

What is Shadows Over Vathak? gives a brief overview of the origins of the corebook and the latest edition.

Following this are brief overviews of nine chapters from Player’s Guide to Vathak. There are sample rules and mechanics from the different chapters, details on the setting, a new archetype, new feats, new equipment and some new spells.

The PDF is bookmarked, though there are some errors in them. The Content is to a similar level of depth and is hyperlinked. Navigation is decent. The text switches between a two column and a three-column format and appeared to be mostly free of errors. There are a variety of colour illustrations, up to about half a page in size. Presentation is decent.

This is the third and final issue of the Gazette and in truth it has some serious problems. Though this does have some mechanical stuff included that can be used elsewhere, what this issue actually is is a long advert intended to promote the main supplement. Which, in and of itself, wouldn’t be bad. However, it’s an ad you have to pay for. This is frankly the sort of thing that would be expected to be given away for free in order to promote a setting, and it’s therefore not worth getting on its own.
