A Measure of Midnight by DT Murphy is a role playing game supplement published by Danny Murphy for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game and Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition.
The supplement is available as a 28 page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. One page is the front cover, one the front matter and one is an ad. Each system has its own separate PDF and each also has a second PDF, a printer friendly 14 page one done in greyscale with two-page spreads.
A Measure of Midnight explains this is a level 2 adventure for four characters in which they have a chance to earn by protecting a trade ship picking up some cargo.
Background explains how their employer was contacted about moving some goods and reached out to a down on their luck captain who had lost several ships.
Running the Adventure explains that the characters will be contacted about the job with eight different hooks as to why they might.
Osteria Lucello details the place where they will meet, including a menu.
A Meeting Over Moonshine covers the actual meeting.
The Belligerent Badger Bunkhouse is where the majority of the crew are staying and where an ambush will be carried out.
Aftermath covers the aftermath of the ambush, including some crew walking.
Along the way to Port Taglianeva has the actual voyage itself and potential encounters.
Continuing The Adventure At Port Taglianeva explains this continues in Trouble at the Ambassador’s Bridge.
The Mermilidon describes the ship.
New Poisons has some new poisons.
Feat Revisions is exclusive to the Pathfinder version and has some house rules used by the author.
A Measure of Midnight in Review
The PDF is bookmarked with major and minor sections linked. Navigation is decent. The text maintains a single column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are a variety of maps and illustrations. Presentation is decent.
One matter regarding the adventure. The Pathfinder version should be published under the Open Game License, and though some of the legal text is included, the actual license itself is missing.
There is little difference between the two different versions of the adventure, with the changes being mechanical ones done where appropriate. It may be possible to drop this into another setting, but it’s fairly tightly tied to the one used, and quite a few changes would be needed in order to use it in another. It might also have worked better having it a 1st level adventure, given that the characters are 2nd level and meeting for the first time. A Measure of Midnight can be found by clicking here.
