A Doom To Speak: The Almagast Caverns by Zachary Cox is a role playing game supplement published by SoulMuppet Publishing. The supplement is aimed at OSR games though no particular system is specified or used.
The supplement is available from DriveThruRPG for $2.45 but was purchased at a reduced price thanks to a special bundle. The PDF comes in two versions; a two-page landscape pamphlet that can be printed out as four pages on a single piece of paper and a three-page PDF with one of the pages being double-sized and containing the map.
The cover states that there’s a rumour a star fell from the sky close to some caves and is now corrupting the local villagers with strange energies. The next part states just what that star is.
The map has the various points of interest in the caves marked around it, together with two d6 tables, one for random encounters, one for treasure.
The final page is Monsters and it gives descriptions and stats for the various creatures in the caves.
A Doom To Speak: The Almagast Caverns in Review
The PDF lacks bookmarks and at this length doesn’t need them. The text doesn’t follow a single layout method and appeared to be mostly free of errors. The illustrations are the map and some stock on the cover. Presentation is okay.
This is effectively a small side quest in a single encounter area, rather than truly being an adventure. There’s a place to explore and encounters to have. As such, it is a decent little side quest. The biggest problem is with the stats; they will need converting to some sort of system and it isn’t always clear what they are supposed to represent. Using the encounter will therefore take a bit of time to set up. A Doom To Speak: The Almagast Caverns is a decent little supplement, if a bit harder to use than it could be, and it can be found by clicking here.
