20 Things #57: Besieged Castle (System Neutral Edition)

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement 20 Things #57: Besieged Castle (System Neutral Edition)

20 Things #57: Besieged Castle (System Neutral Edition) by Creighton Broadhurst and Mike Welham is a generic role playing game supplement published by Raging Swan Press.

The supplement is available as an 11-page PDF for $3.75 from DriveThruRPG but was purchased at a reduced price thanks to a special offer. The PDF comes in three versions, two PDFS, one designed for print and high-end devices, the other for mobile and low-end devices, and a plaintext file. Two pages of the PDF are the front and rear covers, two pages are ads and one page is the front matter and Contents.

20 Things #57: Besieged Castle (System Neutral Edition)1: Minor Events has two d10 tables of events that might happen during the siege, one for the day and one for night.

2: Attacks starts with a d12 table of things the besiegers might attempt and a d12 table of defences and counterattacks the defenders may try.

3: Challenges & Complications has two d10 tables applicable for the defenders, one for dwindling supplies and the other for low morale.

The PDF is bookmarked with major and minor sections linked. The Contents is to a similar level of depth and is hyperlinked. Navigation is decent. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are a couple of black and white illustrations, one full page in size. Presentation is decent.

This is exactly what it appears to be; a simple supplement that can add a range of events to a siege. Nothing is covered in great detail (and, like quite a few supplements in the range, the “20 Things” part of the title is a bit misleading), but there’s a range of possible events, each about a short paragraph in length, covering a range of possible situations that can be used with a fantasy, or likely even an ordinary, siege. 20 Things #57: Besieged Castle (System Neutral Edition) can be found by clicking here.
