Free Role Playing Game Supplement Review: Yin Yang Panda – The Ultimate Tournament of Ultimate Destiny

Yin Yang Panda – The Ultimate Tournament of Ultimate Destiny by Łukasz Kołodziej is a free role playing game supplement published by Skavenloft. This is a supplement for Yin Yang Panda, which is based on Lasers & Feelings and is covered by the CC BY 4.0 license.

The supplement is available as a 15-page PDF for free from DriveThruRPG. Two pages are the front and rear covers, one page is the front matter and one the Table of Contents.

Yin Yang Panda - The Ultimate Tournament of Ultimate DestinyThe Introduction explains that this is a splatbook for the game that contains basic information on a tournament featuring contestants from different realms that’s organised every ten years by the sorcerer Shen Tseu.

How to Use this explains you need the standard material, plus this splatbook. It’s also suggested to have just one player character compete, and the others be their retinue, otherwise PC versus PC combat is likely to happen, which isn’t always wanted. It also explains that this is not a complete adventure, just an outline to flesh out.

The Invitation has five d5 tables for determining how the character got the invite to the tournament.

The Journey has five more d5 tables for creating the journey.

The Island has five d5 tables for fleshing out the island.

The Sorcerer has some details on Shen Tseu as well as another five d5 tables for fleshing him out.

The Contestants has some details, then two d6 tables of combatants.

Bits and Bobs has some more things for fleshing the adventure out including four d6 tables.

Yin Yang Panda – The Ultimate Tournament of Ultimate Destiny in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and though short these would have been appreciated. The Table of Contents covers the major sections. Navigation could be better. The text maintains a single column format and appeared to be almost free of errors. There are no illustrations. Presentation is adequate.

This is a bit of a different supplement for the game, for though it may be only an adventure framework of sorts, it is also much closer to being an adventure – albeit one that appears to be strongly influenced by Mortal Kombat – than most other supplements. It is odd that most of the tables used are d5, not the d6 commonly used. Yin Yang Panda – The Ultimate Tournament of Ultimate Destiny is a useful little supplement and it can be downloaded for free by clicking here.
