Free Role Playing Game Supplement Review: Yin Yang Panda – Taming the Flame

Yin Yang Panda – Taming the Flame by Łukasz Kołodziej is a free role playing game supplement published by Skavenloft for use with Yin Yang Panda.

The supplement is available as an 11-page PDF for free from DriveThruRPG. Two pages are the front and rear covers, one the front matter and one the Table of Contents.

Yin Yang Panda - Taming the FlameIntroduction explains that this is a splatbook for Yin Yang Panda containing details on black powder and other fiery substances found in the Dragonfly Empire.

How to Use This is a standard section explaining that you need this, the core book and the usual playing materials.

Three Gifts explains that the dragon Hong She came to the Dragonfly Empire and gave three gifts to the locals. Three recipes, for heart-warming fire, stomach-warming fire and a fire that warms enemies. These are for dances, hot sauces and black powder. All three can be used in combat.

Playing Aids starts with the Fiery Dragon Dance Generator, from which at least four moves can be chosen to challenge someone to a dance off. Fiery Sauces Generator has two d12 tables for generating these. There are d6 tables for fiery places to visit, fiery folks to meet and explosives to detonate, and a d12 table of fiery materials to burn. Fiery Weapons to Master has six new weapons, some black powder, some flaming oil, some foodstuffs.

Finally, there are four new martial arts, laid out in the usual way; pangolin, red fox, rooster and salamander.

Yin Yang Panda – Taming the Flame in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and has enough sections that these would have been useful. The Table of Contents covers the major sections. Navigation is adequate. The text maintains a single column format, except for the tables, and appeared to be free of error. There are some stock illustrations. Presentation is adequate.

This is a simple supplement that provides some new options for the game, some to add more colour to the Dragonfly Empire, though they could be used elsewhere, and new martial arts with new game options. Yin Yang Panda – Taming the Flame is a nice little supplement and it can be found by clicking here.
