Free Role Playing Game Supplement Review: Yin Yang Panda – Tales from the Dragonfly Empire

Yin Yang Panda – Tales from the Dragonfly Empire by Łukasz Kołodziej is a free role playing game supplement published by Skavenloft. This is a supplement for Yin Yang Panda, which is based on Lasers & Feelings and is covered by the CC BY 4.0 license.

The supplement is available as an 18-page PDF for free from DriveThruRPG. Two pages are the front and rear covers, one the front matter and one the Table of Contents.

Yin Yang Panda - Tales from the Dragonfly EmpireThe Introduction explains that this is a splatbook for the game with characters, monasteries and adventure seeds.

How to Use This is a standard section covering what’s needed; the normal material, this and the core book, and that what’s needed can be picked from this supplement.

Adventure Seeds explains that this doesn’t contain pre-planned adventures, instead a bunch of things to help develop the adventure, and that the seeds can be shared with the players.

Next are the six adventure seeds. Each of these is a series of tables arranged into sections, with a brief overview as to what it is. Where to Start? has ten d4 tables, Who Should Appear? has three d4 tables and What May Happen? has three d4 tables. These tables can be rolled on to generate an adventure seed.

Sample Monasteries has six monasteries, each described with three points.

Finally, there are six sample characters.

The PDF lacks bookmarks and has enough sections that these would have been useful. The Table of Contents covers the major sections. Navigation could be better. The text is one column format in some parts, but the adventure seeds section is three columns and landscape, and appeared to be free of errors. There are no illustrations. Presentation is adequate.

This is a varied collection of tools for the game, with there being the six adventure seeds, which could be called generators and used a number of times, the six monasteries and the six characters. Yin Yang Panda – Tales from the Dragonfly Empire can be downloaded for free by clicking here.
