Free Role Playing Game Supplement Review: Yin Yang Panda – Hornet Unity
Yin Yang Panda – Hornet Unity by Tomasz Piątkowski is a free role playing game supplement published by Skavenloft. This is a supplement for Yin Yang Panda, which is based on Lasers & Feelings and is covered by the CC BY 4.0 license.
The supplement is available as a 14-page PDF for free from DriveThruRPG. Two pages are the front and rear covers, one the front matter and one the Table of Contents.
Introduction explains that this is a splatbook for the game and that the Hornet Unity is beyond the Locust Khanate and this supplement can be used with the Ladybird Republic.
How to Use This has some standard text on what should be used with this supplement.
We Have Guests! is also standard and has six examples of the Hornet Unity to use inside the Dragonfly Empire.
We Are Guests! is similar, but this time it’s to add a touch of the Dragonfly Empire to the Hornet Unity.
The Free Hornet Unity explains that the land is beyond the Locust Khanate and slowly transforms into the Ladybird Republic, and that the two countries are close. It gives details on the land and what it trades.
Landscape gives a description of the lands of the Hornet Unity.
Culture looks at the country’s culture, which is definitely focused on freedom.
Martial Arts explains that the people train with bows, use melee weapons and practice some unarmed martial arts.
Playing Aids has a d12 table of names, details on how surnames are created, d6 places to visit, folks to meet and folks to avoid, d12 treats to try and d6 weapons to master.
Finally there are six new martial arts following the usual format; brown bear, wolf, nightingale, mouse, falcon and beaver.
Yin Yang Panda – Hornet Unity in Review
The PDF lacks bookmarks and, though comparatively short, it has enough sections that these would have been appreciated. The text maintains a single column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are a couple of black and white and colour illustrations. Presentation is okay.
Just as with the other splatbooks of this type, it covers a new part of the setting, though not in a great deal of detail, just enough to add game elements and flavour. As with the Ladybird Republic, unlike lands close to the Empire, this realm isn’t on the Atlas of the World. Yin Yang Panda – Hornet Unity is an other decent little expansion to the game and it can be found by clicking here.
