XM20 – Navidad Pass by Frank Schmidt is a role playing game supplement published by Adventures in Filbar for use with Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition. This is an adventure for three 3rd level characters.
The supplement is available as a ten-page PDF for free from DriveThruRPG. One page is the front cover and one is blank.
The first place gives the Player’s and DM’s backgrounds. The characters are in the town of Ornament when the mayor asks them to find and help the elf philanthropist Claus who was attacked and his magic sleigh went down on Claus’s way to deliver presents to the town. A storm has also moved in, making the journey unpleasant. The DM’s Background states that the biggest issue for characters will probably be the weather; they will need to make repeated rolls to withstand the storm.
Following the characters’ recruitment, there are five encounters in Navidad Pass; one a terrain problem, three monsters. Claus, in the final encounter after the various monsters are defeated, will have repaired his sledge and he and the characters will return to town.
The final page of content has a map of the pass and an illustration of the sleigh.
XM20 – Navidad Pass in Review
The PDF lacks bookmarks and, though short, these would have been appreciated. Navigation could be better. The text maintains a single column format and appeared to be free of errors. The only genuine illustrations are the sleigh and map; unfortunately, the map doesn’t come in a player friendly version. Presentation is okay. However, there are also screenshots of the stat blocks of the various monsters encountered, which is probably not something that is allowed.
Overall, this is a simple and straightforward adventure, though it may not be easy. The characters will have to make their way across wintery terrain through a storm, fighting off several cold-related monsters on the way.
