Free Role Playing Game Supplement Review: Ten Market Stalls

Ten Market Stalls by Nigel Bell, Angela Caffery, Keith Done and Malcolm Owen is a role playing game supplement published by Friends of Eldoria. The supplement is intended for use with the Pathfinder Role Playing Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result. This is a collection of ten market stalls in the publisher’s setting of Eldoria.

This is a 38 page PDF that is available for free from RPGNow. Two pages are the colour front and rear covers, two pages are the front matter, two pages are the Contents, one page is About this Publication and The Setting, two pages are a list of links to other supplements, community pages and a list of previously published modules, one page has a colour map of the setting and one page is the Open Game License.

Ten Market StallsThe actual content has a list of actually eleven different market stalls; wood carver, mead seller, leatherworker, non-magical potion seller, rope seller, fabric seller, light source seller, whistles and horns seller, weaponsmith, locksmith and shoemaker.

Each stall has a description of what the stall looks like, some GM Notes, either a list or details of any stock for sale, NPCs associated with the stall and an adventure hook.

There are a number of sidebars explaining some things in more detail. These are usually connected to the Eldoria setting. A number of the stalls and plot hooks are also connected to each other.

The PDF lacks bookmarks but the Contents is thorough and hyperlinked, although it has more than a few errors. Navigation is okay but could have been better.

The text maintains a single column format with a colour background and some errors were noticed, in particular the numbering system of the stalls is wrong, with some numbers missing and others duplicated, which presumably is why there are eleven stalls. There are various colour illustrations, stock photos and graphics. Presentation is okay.

This may be aimed at the Eldoria setting and the Pathfinder game, but the stalls, with a little tweaking to alter Eldoria specific references, could be placed in any setting. Similarly, with a little tweaking, they could be used with other game systems.

Each stall is fairly extensively detailed, with interconnections, hooks, items sold and NPCs, making this a great resource for GMs needing some stalls to flesh out a location. They could be the hub of a market, or perhaps dropped in different places.

Ten Market Stalls is a great collection of what is actually eleven stalls and it can be downloaded for free by clicking here.
