Free Role Playing Game Supplement Review: Koracia

Koracia by Jonas Karlén is a role playing game supplement published by Free League Publishing through the Free League Workshop Community Content Programme for use with Forbidden Lands. The supplement is also available in a Swedish version. It is built on a fragment of information from the Gamemaster’s Guide about the hidden village of Koracia.

The supplement is available as a 20 page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. One page is the front cover, one the front matter and one the Contents.

The Background explains that Koracia serves as the headquarters for the Raven Church and its inhabitants are the Raven’s Council. A sidebar has a poem related to finding the site.

Getting Here sites the village in the Forbidden Lands and explains the clues that can be used to find the place. There is a new item, Raven’s Eye, described, and three hooks for getting the characters to the village. Legend briefly gives the legend for the site.

Locations described the various locations in and near the village. There are two maps, though one is missing any labels.

Monsters and NPCs describes the various important NPCs who can be encountered in the village.

Finally, Events has various events that can happen.

Koracia in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and is long enough with enough different sections that these would have been useful. The Contents are hyperlinked, but only cover the major sections. Navigation could be better. The text maintains a two-column format and a number of errors were spotted. Most of these appeared to be errors caused during translation, with the use of awkward English and words that do not appear to fit, with some grammatical ones as well. Bar the maps, there are no other illustrations. Presentation is okay.

This is a decently detailed adventure site for the Forbidden Lands, though one that is sparsely populated. As well as the hooks to get characters there, there are various intrigues within the settlement, especially given that the Raven Church is actively persecuted in the Forbidden Lands and its headquarters is therefore a place whose location would be valuable to those who wish to destroy it.
