Free Role Playing Game Supplement Review: Gregorius21778: The Blood-Drenched Room

Gregorius21778: The Blood-Drenched Room is a free role playing game supplement published by Kai Pütz a.k.a Gregorius21778. This is a Halloween horror supplement primarily intended for Lamentations of the Flame Princess system but which should be compatible with other systems of the Old School Revival.

This is a five page PDF that lacks bookmarks. One page of the supplement is the front cover and around half a page is the front matter.

The Blood-Drenched Room is a place that can be summoned by a magic-user, and it is a fairly unpleasant one at that. There is a five stage process for summoning the room, of which one step is omitted.

Next is a description of what the room looks like. The overall appearance is rather red in hue, but is not necessarily unpleasant to start with.

Finally there is a d12 table of results to roll for the appearance of the room. There are ten results in total and one of these is to use the room as the initial descriptions. The remaining results can be quite unpleasant.

The PDF lacks bookmarks although these aren’t truly needed. The text maintains a single column format and a number of errors were noted (the author sometimes states that he is not a native English speaker, and that this may be shown; in this case it’s fairly noticeable). There are no illustrations.

The author makes a note at the end of the supplement that some of the room’s aspects are pretty unpleasant, and that readers should not expand this to the entire supplement or the author. The system it is aimed for, Lamentations of the Flame Princess, does tend to have a horrific tinge to it, and those familiar with the system should understand this. Yes, some of the results are pretty nasty, especially if the characters follow through with them – they don’t have to – but this is a horror supplement aimed at a game with a strong horror edge to it. So just don’t get it if you might be offended.
