FT – Port Plunder is a free role playing game supplement published by Adventures in Filbar and is intended to be compatible with the Dungeons & Dragons game (no edition is specified). The FT range of supplements primarily cover urban areas. This supplement details the pirate settlement of Port Plunder on Isla de Muerta. It is not specified where the town is but it can be placed, with a bit of research, in the Filbar setting’s third continent, Pangia.
This is a sixteen page PDF which lacks bookmarks. One page is the front cover and three pages are taken up by a labelled map of the settlement, which looks like it was produced in RPG Citymap Generator, and five stock images intended to illustrate areas of the town.
Slightly more than one page gives an overview of the history of Port Plunder. The settlement, on the Isla del Muerta, started as a penal colony for Torusak, who banded together as protection against the ancient carnivorous beats that roam the island. The ruler of Port Plunder and his brother now control the island and the two towns are run by the Pirate Lords. Piracy, needless to say, was a primary source of revenue but the town has since branched out into more regular trade and privateering rather than outright piracy.
Nine pages then give an overview of the town, which is divided into 11 areas, each of which has a general theme. An overview is given of each area and then various businesses and locations are briefly detailed – what it sells or is for and the primary NPC to find there.
Another page has eight d12 tables for generating random resident characteristics and the final page has five adventure hooks, one of which is used in GC17 – Infiltration of Taco Del Toro, but that adventure is not set here.
Although short, bookmarks would have been appreciated, but they are not truly needed. The text follows the publisher’s standard single column with a border layout and a few minor errors were noticed. The sole illustrations are the various stock images used. Presentation is okay.
The various locations in the town are not covered in any great detail, unlike in some of the FT range. GM’s wishing to use Port Plunder may need to expand the descriptions in more detail.
This may be intended for a variation of the D&D game, but it lacks any game stats so should be easy enough to drop into any game system. Similarly, being on an island, is could be dropped into many settings without too much difficulty either (the island’s description, brief as it is, actually seems reminiscent of the classic module, X1 – The Isle of Dread).
FT – Port Plunder is a useful little settlement that, even though it could do with some fleshing out, can easily be dropped into many different campaigns and it can be downloaded for free by clicking here.
