A Billion Suns: Warzone

A Review of the Wargame Supplement A Billion Suns: Warzone

A Billion Suns: Warzone by Mike Hutchinson is a wargame supplement published by Planet Smasher Games for use with A Billion Suns.

The supplement is available as an 11 page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. One page is the front cover.

The first page explains that this is a new contract set for A Billion Suns designed with a more warlike feel. The core rules are essentially designed to fight battles for money; this adds corporate war to the mix.

A Billion Suns: WarzoneWarzone Rules explains what rules apply should the CEOs agree to fight using a Warzone contract set. There are only two contracts, credit may never go into deficit, there are a limited number of battlegroups allowed per CEO, military jump points are used a battlegroup that jumps out can be classed as close reserves. The game ends at round 4.

New Ship Classes has five new ship classes and an updated carrier from the core book.

Utility Ship Tactical Loadouts has new options for light and medium utility ships that have a more military bent.

Battlezone Effects has two new effects.

Warzone Contract Set explains that Victory Points are used rather than contract debts. The CEO with the most VPs is the winner. Eight new contracts are then covered.

Warzone Campaigns has rules if playing a campaign using Warzone.

Errata has some errata that apply to all A Billion Suns games.

The final page is a reference sheet for ships and objects.

A Billion Suns: Warzone in Review

The PDF is in theory bookmarked, but the bookmarks are junk. Though short, navigation could be better. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are a number of colour and greyscale illustrations. Presentation is okay.

This is an addition to the core book and that is needed in order to play. What this provides is additional rules that can be used to play battles that are far more military in nature, rather than the ones of a financial nature provided by the core rules. As a result, games played using these options will be different to those using the standard ones, increasing the flexibility of the game. A Billion Suns: Warzone is a decent addition to the game and it can be found by clicking here.
