Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #7: Planar Creatures & Concepts

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #7: Planar Creatures & Concepts

Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #7: Planar Creatures & Concepts is a role playing game supplement published by Skirmisher Publishing for use with Mutant Future. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License, though none of it is considered to be Open Game Content. The Wisdom from the Wastelands series introduces new options for Mutant Future and this one cover the options the plane shift spell creates.

The supplement is available as a 7-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $0.99 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. One page is the Open Game License and one is an ad.

The opening paragraph explains that a mutation capable of greatly influencing a campaign is plane shift, as all kinds of strange things could come through. The supplement starts with a bestiary.

Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #7: Planar Creatures & ConceptsBroken Seals resemble seals, but are in agony when brought through, secrete corrosive slime and dissolve large chunks of the surroundings when they die.

Brooms of Doom are huge flying balls covered with straw-coloured hair that is used to capture prey.

Hairy Stars are gigantic brittlestars that suffer malnutrition when brought through. They are not aggressive, but have a toxic bite.

Kettles are living clockwork machines that have had their minds corrupted by their transfer and instead of seeking to repair items now just seek to reproduce.

Zanders are arboreal hunters that look like tusks with toxic barbs.

Next are new mutations. There are 19 of these, though one is detailed properly in Creatures of the Wastelands. They range from the minor ability to alter the taste of food to the ability to alter a wormhole.

New energies are last, with ten new energies that could be unleashed by using plane shift. This includes practically any type of magic and includes things such as energy fatal to all living beings.

Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #7: Planar Creatures & Concepts in Review

The PDF is bookmarked, with major sections linked. The table of contents is to a similar depth. Navigation is okay. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are a number of tweaked colour illustrations used in various appropriate places. Presentation is okay.

This supplement contains a surprising amount of content, with the bestiary section presenting perhaps the smallest number of options. The new mutations and new energies add a host of new options to the game. Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #7: Planar Creatures & Concepts is a good little supplement and it can be found by clicking here.
