Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #23: Sea Monsters

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #23: Sea Monsters

Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #23: Sea Monsters is a role playing game supplement published by Skirmisher Publishing for use with the Mutant Future system. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License though no parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result. The Wisdom from the Wastelands series introduces new options for Mutant Future and this one is a bestiary of new sea creatures.

The supplement is available as a seven-page PDF on DriveThruRPG for $0.99 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. One page is the Open Game License and front matter and one is ads.

Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #23: Sea MonstersThe opening paragraph explains that sea monsters have been oddly absent from all editions of the game that inspire Mutant Future (Gamma World).

Candy Cod is a creature which makes those who eat it smell like prey and thereby attracts marine and land predators.

Glups are huge mutant groupers that are capable of controlling the temperature of their environment.

The Greater Inferno Whale is a dangerous mutant orca that poisons the water around it and breathes fire every round.

The Shark King is an intelligent sea bass that can animate mud and sand into a shark.

The Shellback is an enormous clam that secrets a sleeping poison.

The Slaath is a bladderwrack kelp that produces oxygen and sparks can cause an explosion.

The Sticky Tree is a sea cucumber that draws prey in to eat.

The Stonegull is a large bird that breathes underwater and nests at the bottom of the sea.

Striking Coral is a form of coral that entombs those who come near.

Next are rules on Drowning, as there are no explicit rules on such in the core rulebook.

New Mutations has three mutations used by the creatures in the supplement.

Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #23: Sea Monsters in Review

The PDF is bookmarked with major sections linked. There is a short table of contents that links most of the creatures. Navigation is okay. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be mostly free of errors. Some creatures are illustrated with a tweaked stock photo. Presentation is adequate.

This is exactly what it looks like; a bestiary of aquatic creatures to add to the game, with a handful of new rules. As a small bestiary, it does its job perfectly well. Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #23: Sea Monsters can be found by clicking here.
