Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #15: Robots Part 1

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #15: Robots Part 1

Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #15: Robots Part 1 is a role playing game supplement published by Skirmisher Publishing for use with the Mutant Future system. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License though no parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result. The Wisdom from the Wastelands series introduces new options for Mutant Future and this one has some new robots.

The supplement is available as a seven-page PDF on DriveThruRPG for $0.99 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. One page is the Open Game License and front matter and one is ads.

The opening paragraph explains that robots are just as important as biological in the game and that this is the first of four issues and presents eight new robots as well as weapons and accessories. These are types of robots, not specific models, just like the core book.

Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #15: Robots Part 1The animal synth is a robot that replicates an animal and is designed for hunting.

The basic junkbot is a robot built from scavenged bits and pieces.

The collectobot is a robot that was a museum curator and now wanders collecting everything related to their exhibit.

The deathbot is a robot that is designed to detect and kill the sick.

The destructor is a top-of-the-line military robot. Highly intelligent, highly dangerous and able to manufacture more ammunition, repair itself and make more robots. This is the type of robot that rules chunks of the wasteland and will be extremely difficult to face. Without, perhaps, orbital bombardment.

The dinerbot is a robot that makes food.

The educator teaches people.

The fabricator builds and repairs technology.

New Accessories has six new accessories used by the new models.

New Weapons has five new weapons, though one is a defence.

The PDF is bookmarked with major sections linked. There is a short table of contents that is hyperlinked. Given the length, navigation is decent. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be almost free of errors. There are some stock tweaked colour images. Presentation is okay.

The core book was fairly limited in the types of robots it had, so new robots are appreciated. Though it probably would be a good idea to carefully think things through before adding the destructor or the fabricator to a campaign. The destructor is so powerful, with weapons that have a range of miles, that it could well be impossible to defeat, and its ability to create new robots has the potential to be unbalancing. The fabricator is not anywhere near as potentially unbalancing, especially if the models encountered don’t make anything useful, but allowing new technology to be made is problematic. Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #15: Robots Part 1 has some useful new robots and it can be found by clicking here.
