Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #12: Parasite Mutations/Transformations

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #12: Parasite Mutations/Transformations

Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #12: Parasite Mutations/Transformations is a role playing game supplement published by Skirmisher Publishing for use with the Mutant Future system. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result. The Wisdom from the Wastelands series introduces new options for Mutant Future and this one adds parasitic mutations.

The supplement is available as a seven-page PDF on DriveThruRPG for $0.99 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. One page is the Open Game License and front matter and one is ads.

Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #12: Parasite Mutations/TransformationsThe opening paragraphs explain that parasite mutations were originally introduced in Creatures of the Wastelands; parasites may be removed through a variety of methods and characters may suffer no after effects. Some mutations may prevent them from occurring. Transformations change the host body, and past a certain point will become irreversible, and may end in effective death. There are also mutation modifiers for some of them, which are covered in more detail in Issue #20.

There are twelve Parasite Mutations, each of which is named, described and the effects detailed, which are different mutations that may or may not be beneficial.

Mutation Modifiers gives a brief overview of these.

There are six Transformations, each of which has a timeline for days passed and the changes that happen. The effects are also described, and in many cases these end in effective or actual character death, though there may still be something alive at the end.

Wastelands Issue #12: Parasite Mutations/Transformations in Review

The PDF is bookmarked with major sections linked. The Contents is to a similar depth and is hyperlinked. Navigation is decent. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are a number of illustrations, which are tweaked colour photos. Presentation is okay.

The mutations and transformations introduced in this supplement range from the comparatively benign, which are generally useful mutations with possibly minor side-effects, to the definitely fatal and several close to that, which may well require an adventure, trying to find a cure before time runs out and it’s irreversible. Wastelands Issue #12: Parasite Mutations/Transformations has interesting new options and it can be found by clicking here.
