Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #10: Monsters That Improve with Age 2

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #10: Monsters That Improve with Age 2

Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #10: Monsters That Improve with Age 2 is a role playing game supplement published by Skirmisher Publishing for use with the Mutant Future system. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result. The Wisdom from the Wastelands series introduces new options for Mutant Future and this one looks at how monsters can become more dangerous with age.

The supplement is available as a seven-page PDF on DriveThruRPG for $0.99 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. One page is the Open Game License and front matter and one is ads.

Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #10: Monsters That Improve with Age 2The opening paragraphs explain that there are more options than those introduced in Monsters That Improve with Age, with this issue having creatures that get weaker as they get older, giant creatures and odd ones that go through metamorphoses.

Elder Age Charts starts with the Gageling, intelligent human-descended creatures that were infected with rattlesnake genetic material than mutated into different species. As they enter old age, they lose Hit Dice and various abilities, but gain increased telepathic range. Uplift Hunters are animals engineered to hunt and often kill uplifts, which lose a Hit Dice when they are elderly.

Kaiju Age Charts starts with the Sun Eater, gigantic, intelligent descendants of loggerhead sea turtles with a powerful beam weapon. Smoking Ruins are massive serpents that give off a toxic and blinding cloud of smoke.

Plant Age Charts has the Slick Vine, a plant created by unsupervised conservation machines that creates oil so that creatures designed to clean up the environment don’t die. Tap Roots are mutant aspen trees with multiple trunks.

Other Age Chart has the Bad Juju Cow, which affects probabilities of those who attack it, with a chance of catastrophic effects.

New Mutations finally has three new mutations used by the creatures described.

Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #10: Monsters That Improve with Age 2 in Review

The PDF is bookmarked with major sections linked. There is a short table of contents that is hyperlinked. Given the length, navigation is decent. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are some stock tweaked colour and black and white images. Presentation is okay.

Those who have read Issue #1 will know that this isn’t rules on having monsters that improve – or degrade – as they age, but is instead a bestiary of examples of monsters that do. Similar to the first, this is a decent bestiary of new monsters. Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #10: Monsters That Improve with Age 2 can be found by clicking here.
