A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Weekly Wonders – Vengeful Curses

Weekly Wonders – Vengeful Curses by Alex Riggs and Joshua Zaback is a role playing game supplement published by Necromancers of the Northwest for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

The supplement is available as an eight-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $1.49 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. Two pages are the front and rear covers, one the front matter and one the Open Game License.

Weekly Wonders - Vengeful CursesThe Introduction explains that curses in media are often tailored more for the story than the spells found in the Core Rulebook. As said curses need to fit a story, not game mechanics, this makes creative curses easier. It explains that this supplement has 11 new curses that are designed to fit specific situations, and that because they are more limited in application, they are much more difficult to remove; remove curse will not necessarily cut it.

The curses range in level from 2 to 9, and have some pretty specific needs, such as having blasphemed in the last 24 hours or stolen something worth at least 1 gp in the last hour. They are also difficult to remove; sometimes remove curse will work under specific conditions, other times something more powerful is needed.

The PDF is bookmarked with major and minor sections linked. Navigation is good. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are no illustrations. Presentation is adequate.

The curses in this supplement can be quite nasty, and often appear to have been inspired by curses in fiction or myth. Given how difficult they can be to remove, it’s fortunate that they are only applicable under specific circumstances; some could even be used to spark an adventure to remove. Weekly Wonders – Vengeful Curses has a bunch of nasty new curses and it can be found by clicking here.
