A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Weekly Wonders – Troll Magic

Weekly Wonders – Troll Magic by Alex Riggs and Joshua Zaback is a role playing game supplement published by Necromancers of the Northwest for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

The supplement is available as an eight-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $1.49 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. Two pages are the front and rear covers, one the front matter and one the Open Game License.

Weekly Wonders - Troll MagicThe Magic of Trolls explains that trolls do practice magic, but relatively few do. It gives the reasoning for why few trolls learn magic, how trolls are, like giants, connected to the land on which they live and that their magic is highly ritualised and often takes longer using more material components than are really necessary.

Burst of vigor increases healing at the expense of energy.

Create cave creates an entrance in an existing natural structure.

Create cave, greater grants more control over the creation.

Curse of mortality greatly reduces natural healing abilities; often used as a punishment by trolls.

Curse of sunstone causes the recipient to be cursed to turn to stone in natural sunlight.

Fearsome demeanor makes the target appear more dangerous.

Heart regrowth keeps a heart alive indefinitely and allows trolls to regenerate from it.

Rock rain causes boulders to rain from the sky.

Tracker’s nose boosts the target’s sense of smell.

Troll claim claims an area which then grants strength to defend it.

Tusks of the high chief causes tusks or similar parts to grow and become razor-sharp.

Weekly Wonders – Troll Magic in Review

The PDF is bookmarked with the various sections linked. Navigation is decent. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are a couple of black and white illustrations. Presentation is okay.

This supplement is exactly what it looks like; a collection of eleven new spells, from level 1 to 7, that are thematically appropriate for trolls, though most can still be used on other creatures. Weekly Wonders – Troll Magic is a decent collection of new spells and it can be found by clicking here.
